Do You Choose to Make Money or Meaning?

In this thought-provoking episode of Pattern Cognition, we unpack one of life’s biggest dilemmas: the pursuit of wealth versus the pursuit of meaning. Inspired by the story of an entrepreneur who sold his company for nearly a billion dollars but found himself grappling with emptiness, we delve into the question: What is the real goal?

Naval Ravikant, a well-known entrepreneur and philosopher, touches on this topic in his guide, How to Get Rich Without Getting Lucky. He highlights that wealth alone often fails to deliver the fulfillment we expect. The key, as this episode explores, lies in creating meaning as you go—not waiting until you’ve “made it” to discover your purpose.

This episode challenges the conventional narrative of success. It asks you to think beyond the numbers and instead focus on building a life that balances financial security with purpose. You’ll hear practical strategies for aligning your daily actions with your long-term vision, so you can avoid the trap of waiting for happiness to arrive “someday.”

Whether you’re an entrepreneur, creative, or professional, this episode is a wake-up call to rethink your approach to success. Start designing a life where money and meaning coexist.

Listen now to uncover how you can build a fulfilling, purpose-driven life today.

So here's the question. Do you choose to make money or do you choose to make meaning? I was reading a blog post by a, an entrepreneur who had sold his company for almost a billion dollars. You might have read this. And after he had sold the company, he had done a number of different things, but he's made more money than he will ever know what to do with.

And now the thing that he's suffering with is that his life is kind of meaningless. Naval Ravikant talks about this in his book. Famous video about how to get rich without getting lucky and he talks about what is the goal? What is the goal at the end of it? And he makes this point that after you've made the money you realize that wasn't the goal in the first place What's the solution to that?

I believe it is making meaning as you go and not waiting for that meaning to come at the end. What do you think?
