These Are the Two Things I Learned from Visiting Zambia
In this episode of Pattern Cognition, we dive into a deeply personal and reflective journey. After returning to Zambia with my daughter, I revisited places from my childhood—houses filled with stories of my upbringing. This trip wasn’t just a walk down memory lane; it was a powerful lesson about change, constancy, and what truly matters.
I discovered two liberating truths. First, so much had changed—neighborhoods, landscapes, and even some of the traditions I once knew. Second, paradoxically, nothing had changed. The essence of those places, the emotions tied to them, and the people who live there remained familiar.
But here’s the real revelation: none of my personal history mattered as much as I thought it did. My stories were mine alone, and the people around me weren’t caught up in them. This realization freed me from the weight of my past and anchored me in the present.
This episode is a call to action to embrace the moment. Whether you’re navigating life’s complexities, pursuing your dreams, or simply trying to make sense of your journey, this story might inspire you to let go of what doesn’t serve you and focus on creating meaningful experiences today.
Tune in to uncover how revisiting the past can lead to living fully in the present.

I learned two liberating things from going back home in Zambia with my daughter just this last month. We went and visited all the different houses that we had lived in when I was a kid and I was telling her the stories of my growing up. And the two things that were liberating that I learned was one, a lot of things had changed to nothing had changed and the reason those things are liberating was Because regardless of my story, nobody there really cared and all I really have is the experience that I'm experiencing today.
So I'm gonna try and make the best of my experience today.
